Bobby Copeland's
B-Western Trivia Corner
Howdy, Welcome to my
B-Western trivia page (courtesy of Joe Konnyu-CowboyPal.com). The purpose
of this page is to remember our beloved B-Western performers (heroes, heavies,
sidekicks and heroines). Your participated is wanted and encouraged, but
please no A-Westerns, no TV-Westerns, no 'spaghetti' Westerns. Although
this page will be primarily for trivia, other items will be posted - such
as contacts for some film festivals, new publications, other Western sites,
etc. I will also post items which I think may be interesting - including
"Headlines from the past," and "On this date." Warning - some of the headlines
may, or may not, show the B-Western performer in a positive light. I plead
with you to remember that they, like us, were not perfect. Please scroll
down for a list of my cowboy books for sale. A little about me before saddling
up ... I have authored 16 books and some 150 B-Westerns articles for various
magazines (including 'Western
Clippings' and the British publication 'Wrangler's Roost'). In addition,
I have attended some sixty-five festivals and met many of the B-Western
performers. I have been honored to receive several awards for my contributions
in keeping alive the memories of the old Saturday matinee Westerns. With
your help, we can continue to keep those memories alive.
May God bless us all, Bobby Copeland

May 3, 1955 - The home of Bill
Boyd, the Hopalong Cassidy of the movies and television fame, was thoroughly
ransacked by burglars while the actor was out-of-town. Hollywood police
said yesterday. A gardner at the Boyd home at 8570 Hillside Ave., Louis
Jonokuchi, noticed a screen had been removed and a window jimmied.
September 25, 1956

A film stuntman, Ruel "Duke" Green, who has taken some of the bumps
for Roy Rogers and his screen actress sweetheart, Lorna Gray, were arrested
yesterday on suspicion of violating the State Narcotics Act after officers
raided an apratment at 1128 Roxbury Drive and confiscated marijuana. (Gray
then changed her name to Adrian Booth)
September 26, 1940
- Iris Meredith, best known as the leading lady to cowboy star Charles
Starrett has been signed to appear opposite Victor Jory in the serial,
THE GREEN ARCHER.
May 23, 1942 - Reportedly
the highest paid stand-in is Buddy Roosevelt, who has been standing in
for Ronald Colman since "Clive of India", ten years ago.
August 23, 1937 - Buster
(Larry) Crabbe, former American free style swim champion was injured when
he fell from his horse.

Re:
December 21, 2009 Trivia
From: Bobby
Sent: December 21, 2009
TRIVIA ANSWER for Dec. 21: Gene
Autry; Dudley Autry: Dudley "Doug" Autry was much like Gene's father
a worthless, drinking womanizer. He tried to capitalize on his famous brother's
name. Dailey Bros. Circus (were also trying to capitalize on the Barnum
& Bailey Circus name too?) had Doug for a part of a season, billing
him as Doug Autry (with the last name in huge letters), until theater owners
in Texas complained to Gene. Gene's lawyers said the name "Doug" had to
be in the same size and lettering as "Autry". Earlier all the circus's
advertising, even on the popcorn and peanuts bags, said "Autry Rides Again."
There is no question the circus was trying to lure people in on the pretense
they would see Gene Autry. Dudley wanted to be a singer like Gene but lacked
the talent.
