Over the Years and recent Film Festivals
In 1954, I was a theater usher at the Walton Theater in my hometown of Selma, AL. Tim Holt came to Selma to perform his stage show at this theater. After his 8:00 p.m. show, he was standing in the yard of the library across the street from the theater. I went over to talk to him and I made this great picture with the moon over Tim's left shoulder. I showed this picture to Jennifer Holt at the 1987 KWFF and she loved it. I asked her how she thought Tim would feel about film festivals if he was still alive and she said he would have really enjoyed meeting the fans.  Tim had a German Shepherd dog traveling with him in his Packard Clipper automobile. He told me he had traveled with a dog ever since a Peeping Tom had  bothered his wife while she was in a motel waiting for him to finish his show one time. I told him I had a Collie named King who chased cars and I was worried about him getting hurt. Tim told me to tie a light weight long rope around his neck and the next time King chased a car, the sudden jerk back would stop this bad habit. I never tried it. Tim opened his car trunk and showed me his guns and holsters and saddle.  He was a great guy, but I was too shy to tell him what a hero he was to me. I've wished many times that I had told him that.

Rex Allen and KoKo

In the Spring of 1961, I was a TV cameraman at WSFA-TV NBC in Montgomery, Alabama when Rex Allen,Sr. appeared in a rodeo locally. He was interviewed at our Tv station and I was fortunate enough to meet him after the show.I was too shy at the time to tell him what a big hero he had been to me when I was young. So it was doubly exciting to meet him when he appeared at the 1987 Knoxville Western Film Festival. I told him about Montgomery and, although he didn't remember me (I didn't expect him to remember), he did remember that it had rained and the rodeo grounds were muddy and hard to navigate on KoKo.
