In the late 1930's and through the late 40's movies of Hopalong Cassidy movies were screened to adoring fans nationwide. Later on in television they again were revived in the early fifties. Hopalong Cassidy radio show debuted in 1950, Hoppy as portrayed by William Boyd, Hopalong was a true gentleman of the "Old West" who always knew right from wrong , carried this out to bring justice to all. Hopalong Cassidy's sidekick's were the good natured grizzly cuss. California Carlson portrayed by Andy Clyde in the 40's. Preceding Andy Clyde in the late 30's and early 40's was George "Gabby" Hayes, who played the character Windy Halliday in Hoppy's early movies. Gabby went on to play Roy Rogers sidekick known as Gabby Whittaker, but that's another story. Hoppy's silver white horse (Tennesse Walking horse), named "Topper" was a favorite to a generation of kids.
