"Bill Price" <billpric@srcaccess.net> billpric@srcaccess.net The National Swing
Band of Texas combines the creative ideas of Bill Price and Steve Palousek.
Influenced by the likes of Buddy Emmons and Ray Pennington, Steve and Bill
discussed for years how such a group could be put together. With Steve's
busy schedule playing pedal steel guitar for Ray Price, Gene Watson and
numerous studio gigs, it seemed impossible. In April of 1999 a phone call
to Steve Palousek from Bill put the project in motion. After an extensive
search for the proper charts the hard part began; finding the right people
for the right parts. With Steve's background of working with some of the
finest players in the industry it became a pleasure to locate and assemble
this fine group. The decision was made Steve would come up with the string
players and the rhythm section. Bill; being a a Bass Trombone player would
put together the horn section. When these two sections merged a new era
of Western Swing and Big Band music was born. The next step to complete
this musical endeavor was to locate a vocalist whom was strong enough to
sing with a Big Band and yet maintain the feel of Western Swing. Steve
and Bill unanimously agreed it had to be none other than the great Curtis
Potter. Curtis Potter, a seasoned veteran of Western Swing lists a host
of credits such as 13 years with Hank Thompson, numerous appearances in
Las Vegas, Europe, the Far East and that much sought after concert in Carnegie
Hall; not to mention a fine album he recorded with Willie Nelson "Six Hours
at Pedernales" There are fiddlers and and
there are fiddlers, but Steve Story is a living definition of "fiddler."
Playing on the road with all of the greats such as Steve Warner, Doug Stone,
Louis Mandrell and Ray Price, Steve has just completed a stint with Rickey
Van Shelton. When you hear this talent blended into the sounds of the Big
Band you will know why the greats prefer him. Steve is one of the few fiddlers
comfortable with everything from Classical to Western Swing. Last but certainly
not least we want to introduce our horn section. This horn section is made
up of some of the finest musicians ever assembled since the Big Bands of
Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Bob Will and the likes. This 12-member group
has well established credentials musically and professionally. These credentials
range from with one Trauma Doctor to an all-state High School saxophone
player. This entire band represents eight Master Degrees, one Doctorate
and one MD. Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen,
the true Big Band sound is back in Western Swing.
